Papa the Farmer and I have a 15 year old argument. He says I’m a book addict. He says I have too many books and I am banned from getting any more. He doesn’t understand how I can possibly have a stack of 8 or 9 books on my nightstand and be reading every single one of them at the same time. I told him that I don’t have too many books, I just don’t have enough book shelves for all of them. In response, he says that “normal” people don’t have nearly as many bookshelves as I do and that “normal” people would not have to keep an additional bookshelf in the bathroom because they have run out of space…
(In my defense – because I surely need one! – I can explain. Our house has big windows, which means we don’t have a lot of wall space. There’s no shower in that particular bathroom so it doesn’t get steamy. And there was a big extra wall with all kinds of space just begging to be decorated in books!)
I’ve purged. I’ve gotten rid of the college textbooks for classes I hated that I will never read again. I put my duplicate books up for trade on Paperback Swap. (I love that site!) Papa the Farmer says that trading books does not count when you are decluttering because the idea is to get rid of things, not to replace them with more. What does he know?
I have given away all the books I could bring myself to give away. But we still have 5 bookcases full of my favorites.
The Agreement
Papa the Farmer usually moans and groans about how many books I have… but we’ve made an agreement that I can get more and he won’t complain… as long as they are really, really good ones and I get a good deal on them! (And as long as he doesn’t have to build an extra bookshelf.) So I signed up with Usborne Books and More to get a discount for my family and we are all loving the selections! The books I chose all got Papa the Farmer’s stamp of approval. He likes them enough that he’s actually encouraging me to get more! The children are loving their new books, and I’m pretty happy too!
You’re Invited!
I’m having a party to celebrate our 15-years-overdue-peace-treaty! I’ll have games and prizes (Book related, of course!), and I’ll show you some of my favorite Usborne books! (I’ll even tell you how you can earn free books! Because who doesn’t love free books?) Invite your friends and feel free to come in your pajammies.
The party is happening this Thursday (May 7) at 8:00 EST/5:00 PST in our Good Old Days Farm Fun Facebook Group.
Here is a direct link to the party.
If for some reason, that link doesn’t work for you, make sure you have joined the Good Old Days Farm Fun Facebook Group and after I approve you, click the tab that says “Events.” You’ll find the Book Lovers Intervention there.
See you there on Thursday!
Ok. This is really more of an intervention for my husband than me. You didn’t really think I was going to stop collecting books, did you?

CONGRATS on joining the team;)
