Have you ever wondered what it’s really like to live someone else’s life? Since you read my blog, I assume that you’re at least a little bit curious to know what it’s like to be married to a guy who would leave a career in software in order to farm… his yard… in a place where vegetables aren’t known for growing well…
My friend Rebecca Hoffer from Simply Rebecca has a great idea! To give each other a glimpse into our real lives, we’re chronicling our day by taking one photograph each hour of whatever we happen to be doing at that moment… Here are the pictures I took of my day and a peek into my life:
6:00 am – Quiet time with the Lord. My neighbor and I are starting a neighborhood Bible Study for Moms. (Which is funny, because out here there are very few neighbors! It may just be her and I!) We’re starting in Matthew and reading one chapter of the Bible each day, with the goal of reading through the entire Bible Together. Live locally? Want to join us on Monday afternoons? Contact me!)
7:00 am – A Farm Breakfast! Oatmeal with honey… and yes, we know the bees personally who made this honey!
8:00 am – Switch a load of laundry before we start homeschooling. Usually I try to empty the dryer before dinner, but yesterday I didn’t get to it. No worries… the laundry didn’t go anywhere overnight (too bad!) so I did it this morning before starting another load.
9:00 am – It’s still cool enough here this morning that I decided to add another log to the fire…
10:00 am – Homeschooling. I’ve got a little bookworm on my hands! I took a picture of FarmGirl reading, but she came along later in the day and deleted it off my camera! Apparently she does not want to make a guest appearance on my blog today… It’s too bad, because that was my favorite picture of the day!
11:00 am -FarmBoy wants to go outside and asked me to tie his shoes. They’re on the wrong feet!
12:00 pm – I ran down to the road to check the mailbox just before we ate lunch. What a wonderful surprise! A personal letter from my friend Lynn Hurtado… who happens to be the award winning author of the book Skunk Tales! A real, live, award-winning author of one of our family’s favorite books ever! One of the reasons that I love blogging so much is because of the special relationships I’ve developed through the blog. My friendship with Lynn is one example. (Want to be my next “I-met-her-through-the-blog” friend? Drop me a line!)
Have you read Skunk Tales yet? We definitely recommend it! (Click here to read a review of Skunk Tales that I wrote about a year and a half ago.)
On my way back up to the house I saw the first dandelion of the year! Yay! I have always loved dandelions!
1:00 pm – The Little Farmhands came running up into the house to tell me that our alpacas are missing! They thought they had escaped and might be walking down the road. I ran outside to help look for them and we found them… safe and sound on our own property… munching on some dead grass in the trees.
I guess they didn’t like being found so Vanilla (the white alpaca) started to charge at us. “Quick Mama! Come into the pen!” The Little Farmhands said. So we locked ourselves into the Alpaca pen until they went away. (Whose idea was alpacas, anyway? Alpacas are supposed to be kind and gentle, but Vanilla is ornery!)
2:00 pm – Time for some deep cleaning! I’ve recently discovered Nony (short for aNONYmous) over at ASlobComesClean.com. Now, she would never tell you to dump ALL your children’s toys onto your couch so that no one can sit there. In fact, she’ll tell you the opposite. (Sorry, Nony!) But, I watched her video series about decluttering her bedroom. She took EVERYTHING out of her bedroom and only brought back the things that belong in there. I thought, “If it worked for her bedroom, why not the toys?” So that’s what we did.
Actually, I dumped it all there last night. When Papa the Farmer came home it was looking worse than this and he got after the children for making such a big mess. He came to where I was with huge, shocked eyes and said in a whisper, “What would possess the children to pour all their toys out like that?” He was really wondering about their mental stability. I cheerfully told him, “Oh, they didn’t do that. I did it!” His eyes got bigger and he just walked away, bewildered. Poor, born-organized man. He doesn’t understand…
3:00 pm – But anyway, by 3:00 the toy area was looking fantastic and we were just finishing up our decluttering session. No picture of 3:00 because it’s hard to take a picture of a mess that isn’t there!
4:00 pm – I worked for a little while on the Family Herbalist course I’m taking. It’s a course through the School of Natural Healing. I often get asked by blog readers where they can learn about herbs and so I’m reviewing this course to decide whether or not this would be a good school to refer my readers to. So far I am loving it! I’m pretty sure this is the one I’ll be recommending from here on out!
5:00 pm – At 5:00 I was making a stir fry for supper. It was so tasty!
6:00 pm – Papa the Farmer came home and fixed my faucet for me. He is never without a helper!
7:00 pm – The children were getting ready for bed. Yes, I know. If you saw the picture of FarmBaby helping with the faucet he is wearing different pajamas than in this picture. It happens sometimes! In this picture I asked him, “How much does Mama love you?” and he said, “THIS MUCH!”
8:00 pm – At 8:00 I decided to take a bath before going to bed. FarmBaby said I could take a bath with his favorite tug boat and even put it in the bathtub for me, so it was there waiting when I was ready to climb in. Now if that isn’t love, I don’t know what is!
