My children think that after they go to bed Papa the Farmer and I secretly stay up playing with their toys. Obviously, they’re wrong. We don’t play with their toys after they go to sleep… we sit up and listen to their history CD’s!

Over the past few weeks, I’ve been sharing with you some wonderful “supplemental resources” our family has discovered while using the Illuminations Program by Bright Ideas Press. I’ve saved my very favorite until last! Diana Waring is someone I heard about several years ago from a veteran homeschooling Mom who I really, really trust. Her exact words were “Everything by Diana Waring is wonderful!” Now, I haven’t had a chance to review everything Diana Waring has done (there’s a lot!), but her history CD’s are amazing! Diana sent me some CD’s to review. Technically, I think I was supposed to play them for my children and write about what the children thought… but these stories are so interesting that lately, I’ve been putting them on after the children go to bed to keep me company while I wash the dishes!
The CD’s are simple. It’s just Diana talking directly to you, telling history stories. (She works with Answers in Genesis, so there are also a few interviews with staff members there in the True Tales set.) But the way she tells history stories! There are so many little facts and details that are presented! She doesn’t need background music and sound effects to be interesting. +Her stories come alive and become amazing adventures!
I also really appreciate that the CD’s are presented from a Biblical, 7-literal-days of creation Worldview. (Note to parents of little people: There is a discussion about evolution in What in the World? She clearly points out the errors in the theory and it was good for my older children to hear, however my 6 year old was a little bit young to understand that she was saying evolution is not true. After some parental explanation, he understood and really enjoyed the history stories with his older siblings.)
Here’s What Diana Waring Will Teach You
True Tales volume 1 is a 3 CD set with the following topics:
- Introduction
- Dates for Creation
- Early Man
- Where Did Cain Get His Wife? (Interview with Ken Ham)
- The Table of Nations
- The Origin of “Races” (Interview with Ken Ham)
- The Dispersion After Babel (Interview with Bodie Hodge)
- Discovery of Troy
- Discovery of Ur
- The Rosetta Stone
- The Hittites
- Discovery of Ninevah
- The Biblical Prophecies of Jesus Fulfilled
What I appreciated most about True Tales is that it tackled some really relevant, current topics (such as racism) but put them in a Biblical, historical context that was easy to understand for the children. I also appreciated some of the insights into Old Testament times and people groups. It’s easy to read through the Old Testament and gloss over references to the Hittites, for example. But what was their history? Why were they significant? Diana does a great job explaining it.
What In the World? volume 1 is a 4 volume CD set which covers the following topics:
- Welcome to World History
- Creation
- Early Man
- The Flood
- Descendants of Noah
- Sources & Evidences
- Oldest Cities
- Historical Chronology
- Problems with the Chronology
- Egyptian History
- Abraham Through Moses
- Joshua Through David
- Solomon Through Jeroboam
- Jonah Goes to Ninevah
- Assyria
- Babylon
- Cyrus the Great
- The Persian Empire
- Xerxes
- Daniel’s Vision
- Athens & Sparta
- Alexander the Great
- The Hellenistic Empire
- Early Rome
- The Punic Wars
- Julius Cesar & the Late Republic
- Octavian vs. Mark Anthony
- The Perfect Moment of Time
- The Promised One
- The Life of Jesus
Again, Diana takes things that we have read about in the Bible and teaches us their historical context to help us understand what was going on in those Bible Stories and why those people and events were significant.

I would like to try her Ancient Civilization CD’s. Her workshop CD’s look wonderful as well.
I’d like the What in the world CDS most. Thanks
Wow! Her Experience History Through Music CDs look amazing! What an incredible way to learn history.
The ancient civilizations and bible cd set is my favorite! I’m an ancient history junkie 🙂
This looks like a great resource as we cycle through ancient history for our second time as a family. Now that my kids are a bit older it would be great to delve into these more challenging questions. Due to chronic health issues, I’m looking for curriculum that take less energy on my part while still being fun and engaging for my children. This looks perfect!
I’ve wanted the What in the world? Cds for a long time. However, I would also like to try Experience history through music.
I would love to try her Learning History through Music CDs, but all of her products look wonderful! I’ve never heard of Diana, so thank you so much for this information and giveaway.
I like the Westward Ho or America. They both look interesting 🙂
I’d love the Modern History set~ they look fabulous!
