How much of your life has turned out the way you expected? For me, not much! When things turn out better than I expect I am quick to thank God, but when they don’t turn out the way I think would be best I tend to resist. I am only now learning that my trials are opportunities from God and not just attacks from the devil.
Miracle for Jen is the story of the Barrick family’s journey after a horrific car accident leaves 15 year old Jen with a severe, life-altering brain injury and her parents with debilitating physical injuries. It is a story of struggle, but also of hope. While the story highlights the ministry of caregivers, more importantly it probes into a vital question:
If all our inhibitions were removed, and the true condition of the heart exposed, what would people see?
Would our dark, unconverted natures be revealed, or would the light of Jesus Christ shine through us?
(I’m not crazy about the background music. My apologies to those of you who also dislike it!)
On one hand, this is an amazing story of God’s power to make “all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are called according to his purpose.” (Romans 8:28) Jen and her family are called and are following God’s purpose for their lives. As such, this story is an incredible encouragement.
On the other hand, parts of Jen’s story are extremely difficult to read. This is an emotionally wrenching story and perhaps not everybody will wish to accompany Jen on her journey.
I enjoyed this video of Jen and her family at a book signing. She has come so far and yet life is still a struggle for her:
