Today has been one of THOSE days. I just knew it was going to be a hard day before I even opened my eyes. When things go wrong before you even open your eyes, you know it’s going to be a very long, hard day.
I stayed up way too late last night. Next week I’m planning some special activities for everyone who has enrolled in my new ecourse (De)Clutter Buddies. (It’s only available right now as part of the Ultimate Homemaking Bundle, so if you want to join in 8 weeks of decluttering challenges, head over here and reserve your spot!). All that planning was fun, but I didn’t go to bed until the wee hours of the morning. It felt like only a few minutes later when I realized it was already morning. I could hear Papa the farmer washing the baby and I thought I would roll over and get just a few more minutes of sleep before having to get up.
So – still mostly asleep – I rolled over. BIG MISTAKE.
Ick. What was that? What did I just roll my face into? Is there something wet in my bed? Not exactly wet… more like sticky. And what is that smell?
I didn’t even have to open my eyes to realize what had just happened. I had rolled into the leakings of a filthy nasty diaper. (Yes, that baby’s face is cute. But the other side of her can do some terrible things.) And now I had nastiness all over my neck, shoulder, arm and who knows where else.
Just then Papa the Farmer walked into the room holding the now-clean baby. “Good Morning! Don’t roll over!” he said.
“You’re about 10 seconds too late,” I told him.
I still hadn’t even opened my eyes yet.
There’s nothing easy about being a wife, mother, or homemaker. Some days are easier than others but sometimes we just need a pat on the back to say, “Keep going. You’re doing a good job.”
Holley Gerth is my patter-on-the-backer. I have only discovered her books recently so I was really excited when Family Christian Book Stores asked me if I would review her book You’re Loved No Matter What: Freeing Your Heart From The Need to be Perfect.
If you struggle with feeling like your life is less meaningful than somebody else’s…
If you struggle with feeling like you want to do amazing things for God but you’re too busy doing ordinary things like picking up toys or wiping bottoms and noses…
If you feel like you should be superwoman, so many people around you are superwoman but you keep falling short…
If you struggle with feeling like you are never ever going to be able to measure up to somebody else’s idea of who they think you should be…
This book is for you.
Let Holley refresh your spirit with her words of acceptance and encouragement. Let her remind you that Christ’s strength is made perfect in our weaknesses. On the final judgement day God isn’t going to ask if we measured up the expectations of our mothers or sisters, church friends or neighbors. He is going to ask us if we did the job that HE gave us to do.
And sometimes that job is cleaning up yuckiness. A whole lot of yuckiness. (Actually… I owe a huge thank you to Papa the Farmer because he took care of the clean-up this morning while I cleaned myself up!)
So to redeem my started-face-down-in-poop day, Family Christian Stores and I are partnering together to offer one of my readers their very own copy of You’re Loved No Matter What.
I think you are amazing. And I’m so glad you are one of my blog readers. Enter using the form below. I hope you win!
And if you want more encouragement in your role as a homemaker, be sure to check out the Ultimate Homemaking Bundle, which is only available this week! I’ve gotten my copy already and it’s so good I plan to get an few extras for Mothers Day gifts for good friends of mine…
